Tirupur: In a major accident on the national highways near Avinashi; 19 people are feared dead after a container lorry rammed head on with a KSRTC bus.
According to initial reports, the KSRTC bus heading from Bangalore to Ernakulam was collided head-on with a container lorry near Avinashi in the Salem National Highway at 3.30 AM today early morning.
19 people are reported to have died on the spot while 23 have sustained serious injuries.
Sources say that the container lorry was carrying building tiles from Kerala to Salem rammed on the bus crossing the centre median.
Bodies of the 19 people are kept in Avinashi GH for post mortem.
