Coimbatore: As a matter of precaution, the foresters under the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) were trained on prevention of forest fire in the Valparai region. A training session at the wildlife interpretation centre at Attakatti by the ATR was held on Wednesday.

Ahead of summer, the Valparai region is facing severe drought-like situation leaving the wilderness dry up thus giving chance for forest fires.
Also, the fringes of the road along the hairpin bends are piled up with dry leaves and bushes which are prone to fire easily. As there is a high risk of forest fires, warning boards have been placed advising the tourists to refrain from throwing used cigarette butts or lighting up fire along sensitive zones prone to fire.
Furthermore, the foresters in ATR kick-started the task of removing the dried leaves from the roads and setting up fire barrier between the forest and road. Fire lines are also placed across tea estates.
This was followed by a training program on forest fire prevention, fire control and extinguishing the fire.
Forest officer Arokiyaraj Xavier, Field Director Muralitharan, Assitant Chief Conservator Of Forest, Selvam, Training Centre officer Naveen, Forest officials from Valparai, Manampalli, Topslip, Ulandhi and Pollachi participated in the event.
