Coimbatore: Tense moments prevailed at the District Collectorate here on Wednesday morning as over 1700 policemen, including Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and Inspector headed by City Commissioner, Sumit Sharan were deployed in security duty after Islamist organisations announced to lay siege to the Collectorate.

Joining the bandwagon of protests across Tamil Nadu urging the State government to pass resolution against CAA, over 10,000 Muslims and members of various Islamic outfits stormed towards the Collectorate on Wednesday.
The protestors were stopped by the police 300 meters away from the Collectorate.
They raised slogans against the Central government for implementing CAA, NRC and NPR and the State government for not passing a resolution in the assembly against the citizenship act.
While it was expected that the protestors would forcibly enter the Collectorate, the heads of various Islamic outfits discussed and decided to disperse peacefully.
Additionally, over 200 Rapid Action Force personnel were also deployed around the Collectorate.
