Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Corporation has instructed Suez, the French company implementing the 24x7 water distribution project to finish the pilot area work by March end.
According to a senior official in CCMC, “Corporation Commissioner has instructed Suez to complete work in RS Puram area by end of March. Once work is completed a trial run will be conducted to test various aspects of the scheme like water pressure and supply at any point of time during the day.”
“24x7 water supply doesn't mean consumers can use water supply throughout 24 hrs. It means unlike the stipulated time for water supply, water will be available whenever they want to. But 135 LPC is the allowed level for an individual consumer. It's better, if people use water prudently," added the official.
Out of 5600 connections in the pilot area, Suez has so far completed 3000 plus home connections, according to official sources.
“Pipelines have been changed. HDPE pipes have been used for home connections to prevent leakages and for main feeder lines, DI pipes have been used. This will allow water to be distributed without interruptions despite pressure changes,” informed an official source from Suez.
According to the agreement between Coimbatore Corporation and Suez, 24x 7 water supply project will be implemented in all the 60 wards (old) of the corporation which will provide water supply at any point of time to 1,60,000 homes within the corporation limit.
