Coimbatore: Alleging that several wards in the city are denied even basic amenities like proper street lighting, adequate disposal bins, good roads among others, the DMK members led by Singanallur MLA N Karthik staged an unprecedented protest in front of the Central Zone Corporation Office in Ramanathapuram here on Tuesday.
The MLA pointed that in Ward No:74 streets that were dug up for the underground drainage works have not been relaid, maintenance of street lights is very poor and there is no schedule for water distribution.
He alleged that all complaints registered in this regard remains to be on the paper and no order was passed for redressal. "The officials are well aware of the issues, yet pay no heed to rectify them. Instead, they subject the taxpayers to face severe inconvenience", he accused.
"If the Corporation fails to act swiftly, a massive protest will be held on March 11 condemning the lethargic attitude of the Corporation officials and the 24/7 SUEZ contract", apprised the MLA.
All the protestors including MLA Karthik were courted arrest.
