Coimbatore: Supporting the long standing plea of the rail passengers to extend the service of Palakkad to Coimbatore Passenger train till Mettupalayam (MTP), MP PR Natarajan said that the Railways should consider the demand and add additional two coaches to the already existing eight coaches and extend the train service till MTP.

Addressing the press at the Union Committee meeting of CPI (M) at Periyanaickenpalayam here on Monday, the MP thanked the railways for paying heed to the demands putforth from the region.
Apprising on the projects approved by the railways, the MP informed that "Permission has been accorded to the Salem Railway Department to construct a sewer and renovate the Kasturipalayam road near Periyanaickenpalayam here.

Lack of basic amenities like drinking water, toilet facilities and lighting facilities in Periyanaickenpalayam and Thudiyalur railway stations have also been discussed."
He insisted that the Mangalore-Coimbatore Intercity Express train should also be extended upto MTP with immediate effect.
The MP highlighted on renovating Urumandampalayam and NGGO colony railway stations. He stressed to initiate work to construct a new bridge to the railway gate on the road from NGGO Colony to Vattamalaipalayam.
"A signature movement will be organised on behalf of CPI(M) to collect signatures from the people of this area demanding bridge", he noted.
The meeting was presided by Sivarajan, Executive Union Committee member. Secretary Balamurthy, Executive Committee member Krishnamoorthy, district committee member Kesavamani and others took part.
