Coimbatore: Three special teams have been formed under the direct supervison of Superintendent of Police, Sujit Kumar to nab the highwaymen who indulge in robbery on the Coimbatore-Kerala highway near Walayar.

Repeated robbery incidents in and around the Coimbatore-Kerala border near Walayar here has caught the attention of the SP who has directed to form three special teams to monitor isolated stretches during the night and wee hours. DSP Velumurugan who heads the special team have tightened vigil around the area to man the mysterious gangs who attack motorists and loot vehicles and valuables on the Coimbatore-Palakkad stretch.
The order comes after the recent robbery by the gang who escaped with a car containing spare parts which was transported to Kerala. Chandran (45) from Singanallur, Coimbatore had been into manufacturing of car spare parts.
Recently, Chandran in his car was enroute to Kerala via Walayar with spare parts worth Rs. 50,000. According to police reports, two unidentified men in two cars intercepted Chandran's vehicle and pull him and driver Loganathan out of the car. They later robbed the car along with the spare parts and fled the spot.
The KG Chavadi police have filed a case in connection with the incident.
It may be recalled that on January 7, 350 sovereigns of jewellery belonging to Kalyan Jewellery was robbed by a similar gang on the stretch.
