Coimbatore: Over 40 contract workers of ESI hospital at Varadarajapuram in Singanallur here staged an agitation on Thursday, demanding to settle their pending salaries and unfair treatment by the employer.
Coimbatore: Over 40 contract workers of ESI hospital at Varadarajapuram in Singanallur here staged an agitation on Thursday, demanding to settle their pending salaries and unfair treatment by the employer.
Over 100 sanitary workers employed at ESI Hospital here are hired on a contractual basis from a private employment agency. A majority of the contract workers accused that the agency who have employed them are not clearing their salaries ontime and threaten to expel them from work, if questioned.

"The consultancy who have hired us threaten to expel us from work, if we demand to clear our pending salaries. They even abuse us verbally and force us to work on all days. We are not being treated fairly", they alleged.
Citing the plight of an employee who was unable to pay his child's fees, the protesting employees lamented that they had pooled money and helped the person to pay his Ward's fee.
The protesting employees jointly requested the government to intervene in the issue and help them.
