The ninth edition of the bird race organised by the Salim Ali Naturalist Forum (SANF) recorded around 250 bird species in and around Coimbatore.

Around 25 teams with each carrying around four members roamed around Coimbatore with cameras and binoculars to spot as many birds as possible from 6.00 am to 5.00 pm on Sunday.

According to the organisers, one of the teams spotted the highest number of birds ever in a bird race. The team managed to spot 195 birds during the day. The second highest count stood at 145.

While no rare species were spotted, the teams were able to get good pictures of interesting species such as White Buzzard and House Martin.

The teams gathered at a private hotel for a time of discussion by 7.00 pm.
