Coimbatore: A cow was killed in a leopard attack at a farm at Sittepalayam village in Sirumugai on Sunday night.
Coimbatore: A cow was killed in a leopard attack at a farm at Sittepalayam village in Sirumugai on Sunday night.
The cattle belongs to Murugan, a farmer from Sittepalayam village near Sirumugai. On Sunday night, hearing alarming sounds from his farmland, he rushed to the spot and found a leopard attacking one of his cow. Immediately, Murugan along with the nearby farmers chased the leopard, however the cow which sustained severe injuries died on the spot.
The forest officials who visited the spot examined the pug marks and the bite marks on the cow's neck.
"The leopard has been spotted several times by the villagers. It had killed dogs and cattle. Hence, the foresters should set a cage to trap the animal", they urged.
As the possibilities of the leopard revisiting the farm is high, the farmers urged the foresters to act immediately to capture the leopard.
The continous attacks by the leopard has caused panic among the villagers of Sittepalayam.
