Coimbatore: The cat is finally out of the bag for the brick kiln chambers of Thadagam that have been functioning illegally, as a letter from the chambers seeking permission from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has surfaced through an RTI.

The chambers owners who have so far been claiming that they had obtained all the necessary permits have written to TNPCB in November 2019, for permit.

The permission letter was released in the RTI filed by activist Rajendran from Thadagam.

In the letter, the chambers have claimed that they could get pollution clearance only after a year, post getting permission from various departments including Forest and Mining, for which they have sought the same.

The letter was a reply to TNPCB, which had sought explanation from the chambers for functioning without obtaining permit.

The matter had been discussed widely in the past and the RTI petitioner, Rajendran along with Ganesh from Thadagam have also filed a PIL, which is pending in the Chennai High Court.
