Salem: Responding positively to the long pending pleas of the farmers and political parties to declare Cauvery Delta region, the granary of TN as a protected agricultural zone, the Chief Minister today has announced that shortly a resolution will be passed in the assembly declaring the region as 'protected zone'.
By declaring it as Protected Agricultural Zone, only agriculture and agri-related industries will be allowed in the Cauvery Delta region.

Addressing the press during the inauguration of a cattle park in Salem on Sunday, Chief Minister, Edapadi K Palanisamy reassured the farmers of the region that permission will not be granted to implement hydrocarbon project in the Cauvery Delta region and soon a seperate law will be passed to declare it as protected agricultural zone.
"AIADMK government would never allow hydrocarbon implementation in Cauvery Delta regions. It was DMK who brought hydrocarbon project and DMK MP TR Balu has confirmed the same in an interview", the CM told.
Moreover, he said it was customary for opposition leader Stalin to undermine the AIADMK regime and play blame games.
Welcoming the move, several farming unions have welcomed the announcement.
