Corporation demolishes five temples in Jeeva Nagar

Coimbatore: Following a writ petition filed by K.K.Nagar Residents Association against Coimbatore City and Municipal Corporation (CCMC) for not demolishing five temples in Jeeva Nagar, the Court ordered the CCMC to clear the enroachments completely.



Coimbatore: Following a writ petition filed by K.K.Nagar Residents Association against Coimbatore City and Municipal Corporation (CCMC) for not demolishing five temples in Jeeva Nagar, the Court ordered the CCMC to clear the enroachments completely. 

Acting upon the order, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner J Sravan Kumar directed the officials to demolish the five temples at Jeeva Nagar. Amidst stern opposition from a section of people, the CCMC officials demolished all the five temples on Thursday. 

While all the 252 houses in Jeeva Nagar were demolished in a phased manner and the evicted residents were provided alternate housing in Keeranatham by TN Slum Clearance board, five temples were left untouched by the Corporation. 

A petition was filed in this regard was filed by the KK Nagar Association alleging that Corporation has not completely removed the encroachments and the road was not constructed as per the High Court order. 

Responding to the petition, the Court ordered the Corporation to clear the encroachments with immediate effect. Following High Court order, Corporation demolish five temples in Jeeva nagar
