Coimbatore: The consecration of 400-year-old Arulmigu Maha Mariamman Temple in Mettupalayam (MTP) was performed on Friday with religious fervour and gaiety. Thousands of people in and around MTP thronged the temple premises to witness the event.

Perur Adheenam Santhalinga Marudhachala Adigalar led the Sivacharyars who chanted Vedas in Tamil. The holy water was taken in a procession around the temple and was poured on the Kalasam. Following which the deities were also sanctified with the holy water.
Since Thursday evening, various yagams were held at the Yaga Salai which culminated on Friday. All devotees took part in the special poojas followed by Annadhanam.
