The Nilgiris: Commotion prevailed at the Coonoor bus stand on Thursday after passengers were left stranded in the buses after government bus drivers boycotted work condemning the assault on a driver allegedly by John Pandian, President, Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and his cadres.
The Nilgiris: Commotion prevailed at the Coonoor bus stand on Thursday after passengers were left stranded in the buses after government bus drivers boycotted work condemning the assault on a driver allegedly by John Pandian, President, Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and his cadres.
According to reports, the party cadres were travelling from Coonoor to Aruvangadu to take part in an event, in which John Pandian was also scheduled to participate. "A government bus which was ahead of the cars purposefully obstructed to give way for the cars", the cadres alleged.
Enraged by this incident, the party cadres attacked the governement bus driver, Babu. On hearing about this incident other bus drivers boycotted work at various places. As a result of this sudden bus strike, passengers were left stranded at various places.
Hearing the issue, the police arrived to the spot and pacified the bus drivers and and promised to arrest the men who assaulted the bus driver. Following police intervention, the bus strike revoked their strike and for back to work.
Meanwhile, the cadres who assaulted the bus driver were caught by the police on Mettupalayam Road. Police are investigating them.
