Coimbatore: With a striking similarity to a movie named Sathuranga Vettai which portrayed how tricksters cheat businessmen in fake iridium and rice pulling scam, the city police here have arrested three men in a similar scam in Coimbatore.

Swaminathan (50) hails from Mulanur in Tirupur district. Recently, three men contacted him through friends, claiming that they have 'Iridium' and are looking out for people to buy it. The trio lured him by saying that possession of Iridium would bring abundance of good luck, wealth and health.
Lured by their proposal, Swaminathan agreed to buy Iridium at Rs 25 lakh. Swaminathan, even paid an advance of Rs 5 lakh and booked the Iridium.
After a week, the trio asked Swaminathan to come to Coimbatore to collect the Iridium. When he arrived, they have demanded him to pay the entire amount and informed that they had kept the Iridium safely in a car. Their hurried approach and unwillingness to show the Iridium created suspicion to Swaminathan who alerted the Periyanaickenpalayam police station.
Hearing the scam, the police rushed to the spot immediately and arrested the three men and confiscated their car.
The Police are holding inquiry with the trio to understand their network and their previous scams.
