Coimbatore: In a first, the Doctors at Coimbatore government hospital have successfully harvested the organs of a 35-year-old brain dead patient, today.
The team of doctors harvested the liver and kidneys of the patient. The kidneys were sent to a private hospital in Salem and the liver was sent donated to a patient in KMCH hospital on Avinashi road here.
P Sivaperumal (35) a daily wage labourer from Kattabettu in the Nilgiris district met with an accident at work after he slipped from the top floor of the construction site. He was immediately rushed to Kothagiri government hospital and was later shifted to Coimbatore GH for critical treatment.

The doctors who examined him here declared him brain dead after conducting several tests. After the family agreed to donate his organs, the doctors at Coimbatore GH harvested his organs with utmost care which has given a new lease of life to three people.
