The Nilgiris: District Collector J Innocent Divya on Wednesday inspected the preparations for the 17th annual Rose Show to be held in the Nilgiris in May 2020. The Rose garden is one of the 35 gardens worldwide to have received "Garden of Excellence Award".

Ahead of the season, pruning and trimming of rose plants and ornamental plants are being carried out at full swing at the Government Rose garden which is maintained by the Horticultural department.
More than 4,201 hybrid variety of roses and 31,500 rose plants are all set to decorate the Rose garden, which has always been a unique attraction among the tourists.
Speaking about the preparations, the Distrcit Collector said," With the onset of summer, the season for tourism in Ooty will begin at full pace. Like last year, various shows and events will be organised at different tourist spots in the Nilgiris. The display of roses at the Rose Garden in Elkhill is regarded very unique as every year the exhibition has been witnessing more footfalls."

"The rose plants are being trimmed and maintained meticulously by the staff of Horticultural department. The roses will be ready for bloom in the month of April end to May. Tourists can enjoy the beauty of these plants and flowers during the exhibition", she informed.
Last year, the 16th Rose show was held on May 12-13, 2019 showcasing about 30,000 rose plants. The rose garden received the Garden of Excellence Award for being the best rose garden in South Asia, from the World Federation of Rose Societies in May 2006, in Osaka, Japan.
