Corporation and Health Dept holds meeting to discuss on preparedness for Coronavirus and Dengue

Coimbatore: In view of the recent outbreak of Coronavirus in China, the State health department has directed Corporations and Health departments to hold meetings to assess the preparedness in their respective districts.

Coimbatore: In view of the recent outbreak of Coronavirus in China, the State health department has directed Corporations and Health departments to hold meetings to assess the preparedness in their respective districts. 

In line with the instructions, a meeting was convened at the Corporation office on Tuesday in which officials from both Corporation and Health department took part. Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer J. Sravan Kumar chaired the meeting. 

And, the meeting with Health Department officials was chaired by Corporation Deputy Commissioner S. Prasanna Ramasamy. 

Addressing the meeting, Corporation Commissioner insisted the officers to direct the corporation field staff to create awareness among people on hygiene and assess the sanitation conditions in each ward. 

"The concerned authorities must strive to spread awareness regarding the disease at crowded places, parks, colleges, schools and among the general public. Measures must be taken to reach out to all masses regarding preventive measures against Coronavirus and dengue", said the Commissioner according to a release. 

He also requested people to stay abreast of the preventive measures and stay healthy by maintaining good hygiene. He stressed that people should boil the drinking water before consumption. Importantly, the public should cooperate with the Corporation to keep their surroundings clean, he told. 

"All passengers arriving at airports from both international and domestic are being thoroughly scrutinised before permitting them entry. If any person has symptoms like fever, they are being closely monitored for 28 days and necessary medical attention is being given", the Commissioner informed. 

Briefing on the precautionary measures jointly initiated by the Corporation and District Health department, he said," The District Health department and the Corporation are working together to implement safety measures. Doctors and health workers in all the 32 Primary Health centers in the Corporation are undertaking measures for prevention of Dengue and Coronavirus. People involved in spreading the awareness message must insist the importance of washing hands thoroughly and spread this message among the masses", he said. 

City Health Officer, Dr. K. Santhosh Kumar, Zonal Health officers and Health department workers took part in the meeting.
