Coimbatore: The annual Thaipoosam festival at Sri Subramaniyasamy temple at Valparai in Coimbatore district commenced today with the traditional flag hoisting this morning. Amidst chanting of mantras, the flag was hoisted and large number of devotees in and around Valparai witnessed the flag hoisting ceremony.

The deity was taken on a procession after conducting special poojas. This was followed by Abhishekam and Deeparadhan to the flag post. The devotees chanted praises and songs and took part in the festivity with religious fervour.

The main celebration will be held on Friday, February 7 and the Palkavadi, Paravai Kavadi procession and special Annadhanam will be held on Saturda, the 8th of February. Thirumurugan and Valli will be taken in procession amidst cultural events, the organisers told.
They added that the Maha Abhishekam and fire crackers show will take place on the end of the festivity.
