Coimbatore: A group of 30 farmers from the Nilgiris district who sell vegetable produce at the RS Puram Uzhavar Sandhai here thronged the District Collectorate to submit their grievance on a officer who has been stopping them from selling in the Uzhavar Sandhai and allegedly demanding bribe.
The irked farmers told in their petition that they have been selling fresh hilly vegetables from the Nilgiris district at RS Puram Uzhavar Sandhai for the past 20 years. Of late, a officer named Kannan has been denying entry to them to sell their produce at the aforesaid place.

"Despite providing him all necessary documents like identity cards, he has been hindering us from selling vegetables there. He even demanded a bride, yet he denied entry for us", they lamented.
"Citing that farmers from other districts are not permitted to sell their produce in nearby districts, the officer has been causing trouble to farmers from Nilgiris district. Over Rs. 2 lakh worth of vegetables are dumped in the RS Puram Uzhavar Sandhai", the distressed farmers from the Nilgiris informed.

While the farmers were waiting to hand over their petition to the District Collector, Rani, a woman farmer fainted. This caused a stir among the farmers.
