Coimbatore: Tense situation prevailed in District Collectorate on Monday morning as an auto driver tried to self immolate due to debt issues. The alert Police who were on duty thwarted the attempt.
At around 12:30 pm, Vinod Kumar, an auto driver from Singanallur came with his children to the District Collectorate. All of a sudden he attempted self-immolation by pouring Kerosene on himself.
Following this, the police and an alert 108 Ambulances paramedic staff, Balaji thwarted the self-immolation. He was later taken to Race Course police station for investigation.
Seeing Vinod's act, his children wept and panicked. The women security personnel pacified the children and took them along to the police station.
According to police, Vinod took this extreme step after he was allegedly cheated by some people which led to close down his business. In a letter that he had kept in his pocket, he had requested good education for his children. He had also requested to plant a sapling in his burial site.
The incident caused a stir in the district collector's office.
