Tirupur: Jallikattu, the bull-taming event has been organised for the third consecutive year in Tirupur district on Sunday, 800 bulls and more than 600 bull-tamers are scheduled to take part.
State Minister for Animal Husbandry Udumalai K Radhakrishnan flagged off the event in the Alagumalai area near Tirupur, today. Bull tamers from various parts from Kangeyam, Tirupur, Salem, Coimbatore, Palamedu and various places have registered to take part in the valorous sport of Tamil Nadu.
Committee members of Alagumalai Jallikattu Kaalaigal Nalasangam who have organised this event have informed that this year around 800 bulls from various parts of the State will be taking part and the event is conducted as per the guidelines issued for jallikattu venues.
Speaking to the media, Minister Udumalai Radhakrishnan said the a groups of veterinary doctors and seven medical teams with mobile medical vans are stationed at the venue to treat the injured. And, all arrangements are strictly monitored to ensure it meets the guidelines, he told.
Variety of prizes including TV, Fridge, Air conditioners and many others have been announced for the winning bull tamers.
