Coimbatore: In a bizarre incident, a man who was caught for driving in an inebriated state in the Singanallur area has accepted to go to prison instead of paying Rs. 10000 fine.
Coimbatore: In a bizarre incident, a man who was caught for driving in an inebriated state in the Singanallur area has accepted to go to prison instead of paying Rs. 10000 fine.
Swaminathan (54) who belongs to SIHS Colony in Singanallur was caught by the police for driving his two wheeler in an inebriated state on November 08, 2019. A case was registered against him by Singanallur Sub Inspector Murugan.
Since Swaminathan did not cooperate with the Police and didn’t appear to pay the fines. After several attempts, the police sent a summon notice through the Courts on January 29th. The judge levied a fine of Rs. 10,000 or 2 weeks imprisonment in his judgement for this case.
To the surprise of many, Swaminathan said that he is unable to pay the fine of Rs. 10,000 and would rather accept the 2-week prison time. Following this he was remanded in the Coimbatore Central Prison yesterday.
This incident created a lot of discussions in the courts as someone refused to pay the fine but instead accepted prison time.
