Coimbatore: An alleged drug peddler was arrested here for possessing 48 kg ganja during a special drive in the late hours of Saturday day, the Narcotics Information Bureau (NIB) officials said.

Based on a tip-off that a drug peddler has been targeting college students here, a team of officials under the direct supervision of Vincent Raj, Deputy Superintendent of Police, NIB, Inspector Saravanan and team were carrying out vehicle inspection at Singanallur Bus stand here on Saturday.
During the checking they found a man roaming in the inside the Singanallur bus stand area. Upon inquiry, the police fell dubious and checked his baggage and found 48 kg of ganja packets.
Upon inquiry, the man was identified as A. Poovedhan (25) from Andipatti in Theni district. He also confessed of pedelling ganja from Andhra Pradesh to sell them to college students in Coimbatore.
A case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against him and produced in the District Court. He was later sent to Coimbatore central prison.
The NIB officials are on the lookout for two others from Theni district for their alleged involvement in drug peddling.
