The diseases that are spread by viruses around the world have terrified the public. Various viruses have spread over time, causing many deaths. Currently, many people are infected with coronavirus in China. Several are dead and many others are under medical supervision.
This infection has since spread to many countries. In the meantime, the World Health Organization is making various efforts to control the virus. Upon on orders of the Union Health Ministry, all states are on alert after the disease has reached the shores of Kerala through an affected student traveling from China. Thermal screening facilities have been installed at seven airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Coimbatore.
Meanwhile, out of the eight people who arrived at the Coimbatore airport via China on Monday, four were from Coimbatore, two were from Pollachi and another two were from Chennai and Dindigul. The health department has been intensively investigating to detect if they are infected with the coronavirus.
Day before yesterday two people from Anthiyur and Dharapuram who reached here via China were tested and since the tests proved negative they were allowed to go home. But they were advised by health officials not to go to public places and to report immediately if they were affected by cold and flu.
The consultation session for doctors was held yesterday at KMCH Hospital in Avinashi Road, Coimbatore headed by District Health Department Director Ramesh Kumar. Over 200 government and private physicians, as well as from examination centres participated in the training and counselling on how to treat those infected with coronavirus, how to safely isolate them, and take blood samples.
District Health Director Ramesh Kumar said, "No one needs to fear the coronavirus. Personal hygiene habits prevent the spread of disease. Wash your hands 10 to 15 times daily. When it comes to coughing and sneezing, use tissues to ensure that others do not get infected.
Awareness programs are also being conducted for school and college students on personal hygiene habits and how to avoid infection. Similarly, the hospitals have been able to monitor the arrivals of the airport daily and send information to the health department. Medical teams have been set up in the Coimbatore district to raise public awareness and resolve their doubts.
He also said that the state health department and the district health department are actively working to resolve the public's doubts over the phone.
The director also said that the health department is ready to prevent the spread of coronavirus infections and resolve any doubts of the public and have released helpline numbers:
