The estate workers of Murugali in the Solaiyar dam area found a dead leopard on Friday morning and alerted the forest department. The foresters led by Manampalli Range Forest Officer, Thangaraj arrived to the spot and retrieved the carcass.
A post mortem was conducted at the spot by a team of veterinarians. The organs of the animal was secured and sent to Coimbatore for further analysis. And the remaining carcass was burnt at the same place.
According to initial reports, the leopard could have died after it preyed on a porcupine, the forest officials said.
On Monday, a leopard in Valparai was found dead after it was attacked by a tiger. Death of two leopards in a row is a cause for concern, opined the foresters.
