Tirupur: Bringing much joy among avid book readers, the 17th Book Festival was flagged off in Tirupur with great enthusiasm, on Thursday. This year, the book festival will be held at the K.R.C. City Center.
Tirupur South MLA S. Gunasekaran. District Collector K. Vijaya Karthikeyan presided over the function which was attended by several dignitaries and avid book readers.
The first book sale was initiated by SIMA District President A.C. Eashwaran and was received by Dr. Nalli Kuppusamy.
This year, the 11-day book festival will hosts around 102 stalls including publishing company and book sellers. Leading publications have taken 42 stalls and book sellers have set upto 60 stalls.
Parking, refreshments, food stalls, drinking water and toilet facilities are available at the venue, told the organisers.
The astounding 'Parai' performance by over 100 artists from Nimirvu Cultural group added fervour to the event.
The Book Festival Committee President, Mohan K. Karthik, Secretary R. Eashwaran, organisers Arima M. Jeevanadham and Emperor V. Ponnusamy took part in the inaugural day celebrations.
Apparel Export Promotion Corporation President A. Sakthivel, Tirupur Exporters Association Vice President Maiko Velusamy, SIMA President A.C. Eashwaran and other dignitaries attended the inauguration.
