Bank employees strike: Rs. 800 crore worth transactions to get affected in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: As talks on wage revision failed to make any headway, the United Forum of Bank Unions The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), which represents nine trade unions, has called for a two-day nationwide strike on January 31 and February 1. 

Banking operations across the country has been affected as bank branches and ATMs remain closed. 



Urging a 20 point charter of demands, including a 20 percent wage hike, cancellation of the new pension scheme, rectifying pension issues, announce Saturday and Sunday as holidays, to set a mandate working hours for higher officers among others, bank employees here protested in front of Bank of Baroda near Coimbatore Railway Station on Friday. 



More than 1000 bank employees participated in the demonstration in Coimbatore which was chaired by All India Bank Staff Officers Federation's District Chairman, Meenakshi Sundaram.

The Bank employees association said that their two-day strike, January 31 and February 1 will have a huge impact as Re. 800 crore business transactions in the region will get affected. 

They also warned that if their demands are not met, the next phase of strike will place in March. If the issue still goes unaddressed, they will go on an indefinite strike from April 1, 2020.
