Coimbatore: A Private bus was confiscated from here on Thursday for non-payment of compensation in an accident case.

Acting upon a Court direction which ordered the private bus to pay a compensation of Rs. 75 lakhs to Geetanjali, an accident victim who sustained grievous injuries to her extremities after the bus number S16, a private bus rammed on her two-wheeler, in 2018.

Janardhanan, father of the victim from Madukkarai, here filed a complaint against the private bus under the Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation act in the Special Prosecution Court seeking compensation.

In March 2019, the court ordered a compensation of Rs 75 lakh and a interest of Rs. 74,000. However, Janardhanan filed a petition in the Court, as the private bus company failed to compensate them.

Hearing the case, the court ordered that the bus be confiscated for not paying compensation. The officials today confiscated the bus which was on its way near railway station.
