Coimbatore: As part of the ongoing Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign and world Leprosy Day which is observed internationally every year on the last Sunday of January to increase the public awareness of the Leprosy, school and college students on Thursday took out a rally here.

The rally which was flagged off at the District Collector's office aimed to raise awareness about medical facilities available to eliminate leprosy from the society. The rally was initiated by Deputy Commissioner (Kalaal) Kalaivani.
"As many as 89 people are diagnosed with leprosy in the district, this year and are being treated. As January 30, Mahatma Gandhi's memorial day is being observed as National Leprosy Eradication Day. As part of this day, a series of awareness events are planned from January 30 to February 15 in all parts of the district", told the officials.
The students held placards stressing the need to maintain hygienic conditions to prevent leprosy and early detection.
The rally was attended by students of PSG Nursing College, GKNM Nursing, Vidya Mandir Secondary School, and other volunteers. An awareness rally was initiated by Deputy Commissioner (Kalaal) Kalaivani.
The rally concluded at the Health Department Deputy Director's Office at the Race Course Road.
