Coimbatore: The long wait has finally, come to an end, as the second phase of the two-tier bridge at Gandhipuram here was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy through video conferencing, on Wednesday.
Coimbatore: The long wait has finally, come to an end, as the second phase of the two-tier bridge at Gandhipuram here was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy through video conferencing, on Wednesday.
Minister for Municipal Administration, SP Velumani flagged off the vehicles on the new bridge which is open for public use from today.
The work for constructing bridge was started in 2017 at a cost of Rs.75 crore after the four-lane bridge from Gandhipuram Park Gate to Textool was completed in 2017 at Rs. 120 crore.
Traffic congestion was drastically reduced as buses plying to Mysore, Thalawadi, Bannari, Sathyamangalam, Kovilpayalam, Saravanampatti and Ganapathy used the bridge instead of queuing up the Gandhipuram road. Yet allegations were rife that a roundabout should have been set-up at the first bridge near Thiruvalluvar bus stand in Gandhipuram.
Now, the work on the 100-feet road to Ramakrishna Road, a stretch of 1.75 km, which began in March 2017 has been opened for public use.
