Coimbatore: In a shocking surgery, doctors of VGM hospital in the city have removed upto half kg hair and shampoo sachets from the intestine of a 13-year-old who allegedly was under stress
Briefing media persons here, surgeon Gokul Kiruba Shankar from the hospital said that the girl was deeply saddened by the demise of her uncle, who raised her and had been in taking hair and shampoo scahets for the past few months.
"Depressed over her uncle's untimely death, she had started consuming shampoo sachets and hairs for over six months which has created severe discomfort and pain in her stomach", he told.
"When the parents brought the girl for consultation to VGM, an abdomen scan was carried out which revealed a cyst in her intestine,” he said.
He further added that a surgery was suggested to remove the cyst. However, much to their shock, during the surgery the doctors found out it was a ball of hair and plastic items that had formed like a cyst and has been causing discomfort for the girl.
“We did a laparoscopic surgery to remove the hair and plastic ball. This is the first such experience for me in the last 32 years as a doctor. I have never seen such a case,” said Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasath, Chairman and Head of the department of Gastroenterology of VGM hospital.
He added that the surgery continued for one and a half hours.
“It is disheartening to see children being ignored by their parents to such a level. Parents should always look after their kids and keep a check on their wards physical and mental health", opined Dr.Mohan Prasath who informed that the girl is recovering well.
