Coimbatore: Joining the bandwagon of protests by the farmers in Tamil Nadu, against implementation of hydrocarbon project in the Delta region, the district members of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association tied black turbans and petitioned to the District Collector here on Monday.
Coimbatore: Joining the bandwagon of protests by the farmers in Tamil Nadu, against implementation of hydrocarbon project in the Delta region, the district members of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association tied black turbans and petitioned to the District Collector here on Monday.
The farmers from Coimbatore and adjoining regions who came to the Collectorate, wore black turbans at the grievance meet to show their protest for not getting consent from the farmers for implementing hydrocarbon project.
They also alleged that the Centre for not obtaining public consultation. The petitioners demanded that the Centre should withdraw the project which was forced on the State without the consent of the State government.
A petition in this regard was filed by Palanaisamy, District President of Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association to District Revenue Officer, Ramadurai Murugan.
The petitioners pointed that the Chief Minister, Edapadi Palanisamy has pointed out that due procedure was not followed by the Centre before this decision was taken and no public consultation was taken.
"The project would cause irreversible damage to the environment and livelihood of the farmers, hence should be withdrawn", Palanisamy told.
