Nilgiris: Nilgiris District Collector J Innocent Divya hoisted the National Flag during the 71st Republic Day Celebrations at Govt Arts College Grounds in Ooty.

The 71st Republic Day is being celebrated nationwide today. As a part of this, at the Govt Arts College Grounds in Ooty, the district administration had arranged for the annual Republic Day ceremony here. Following this, District Collector J Innocent Divya arrived at the flag platform and hoisted the National Flag at 8 am and accepted the guard of honour.

The guard of honour was performed by the police. She received the police parade in an open jeep. She then went on to distribute awards and certificates to policemen and public servants who had performed well.

Beneficiaries were awarded with welfare assistance of Rs. 91 lakhs. Todas and Badugas, two of the native tribes of The Nilgiris, students from schools and colleges performed colourful cultural events and they were all awarded with certificates for the participation in the event.

The event was attended by many public and they were delighted to watch the cultural events and celebrations today.

Similar events happened in Valparai today where Municipal Commissioner Pavanraj hoisted the flag. Municipality officials and officers from various departments attended the flag hoisting today.

They also paid respect to Mahatma Gandhi in the Gandhi statue complex and a flag was hoisted there too. Sweets were distributed to all who attended the event.
