District Collector K Rajamani, Corporation Commissioner J Sravan Kumar Jatavat and legislators attended the event.
Speaking at the event, Minister SP Velumani said "Coimbatore is the Manchester of South India, is the second-largest city in Tamil Nadu. The area of the Coimbatore Corporation is 257.04 square kilometres and the population is estimated at 18,50,000 according to the 2018 census. With an incoming crowd of 3 lakh people, the city is a busy hub for medical, education and industrial sector."
"Though the City has well-equipped bus stations at Gandhipuram, Ukkadam, Singanallur and one on Mettupalayam road, the combined bus stand envisioned at 61.62 acres in Vellalore with an estimated cost of Rs. 168 crore will address the increasing traffic congestion.
He also said that the construction of the bus stand is to be carried out through a government and corporation public financing, with advanced amenities like resting lounge, restaurants, shopping complex and toilet facilities for the convenience of the public.
He opined that the integrated bus station will reduce traffic congestion on Pollachi, Palladam, Avinashi, Mettupalayam and Sathyamangalam Roads."Separate parking lots for two-wheeler and four-wheelers will be built", he informed.
