Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation has bagged Smart City award for 1MW Ukkadam Solar Power Plant, under theme Urban environment at the third apex conference for Smart cities held at Visakhapatnam, today.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation has bagged Smart City award for 1MW Ukkadam Solar Power Plant, under theme Urban environment at the third apex conference for Smart cities held at Visakhapatnam, today.
Coimbatore Corporation received the award after participating in the smart cities award contest 2019 which also has a cash prize of Rs 5,00,000.
CCMC Commissioner, J Sravan Kumar received this award at the conference attended by State Principal Secretaries (smart cities) CEOs and important stake holders of Smart Cities mission across the country.

Smart Cities Awards was distributed amongst the Smart Cities under 7 urban themes - governance, built environment, urban environment, social aspects, culture & economy, mobility and transport & water and sanitation.

Coimbatore Corporation bagged the award under Urban environment category for the Ukkadam solar power plant. Ukkadam solar power plant with 1 MW capacity was built at the Sewage treatment plant at a cost of Rs. 5.5 crore.
The India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) is organized under the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.This is one of the important activities initiated under the Mission, where pioneering city strategies, ideas and projects are recognized based on innovation, impact and replicability/scalability.
ISAC recognizes and rewards cities, projects and innovative ideas that are promoting sustainable development in urban areas in India.
