Minister holds review meeting on developmental projects; urges officials to attend to grievances on priority

Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani held a review meeting with the officials on the developmental projects in the city at the Corporation Office in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Minister SP held a review meeting to evaluate the ongoing Corporation-related developmental projects in the city. 

Addressing the officials of various departments, the Minister urged the officials to attend to grievances on priority and ensure redressal within a reasonable time. 

"Next to Chennai, Coimbatore has the largest Corporation in terms of area and population. CM Edapadi K Palanisamy has sanctioned sufficient funds for Coimbatore Corporation for enhancing drinking water, roads, sewer schemes, rainwater drains and parks, like never before in 50 years", apprised the Minister. 

Elucidating on the much-expected Metro Rail Project, Minister SP Velumani told that "The project is a long-standing dream of the people of Coimbatore. A comprehensive field survey is being conducted by the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation."

He noted that Rs.1500 crore has been allotted under the Smart City project for rejuvenating the eight ponds, including Ukkadam Periyakulam and Valangulam.

Public parks at several wards have been opened for children and elders to relax. 

He stressed that officials of Corporation and Public Works Department should ensure immediate redressal on complaints and complete the ongoing UGD projects and rainwater harvesting projects in a timely manner.

"Uninterrupted drinking water supply to Coimbatore through the Tamil Nadu Drinking Water Drainage Board will help the people to a large extent", the Minister informed. 

He also said that 90% of road construction work between Pollachi to Echanari worth Rs. 414.90 crores have been completed. And, soil testing and design work for Western highways worth Rs. 320 crore, Aathupalam-Ukkadam bridge worth Rs. 215 crore, second-tier bridge in Gandhipuram worth Rs. 194 crore, the 9 km bridge connecting Uppilipalayam to Avinashi road worth Rs. 1000 crores are underway. 

Also, the 3.15 km bridge from Stock exchange to Rainbow colony on Trichy Road, Rs. 66 crore worth housing unit in Koundampalayam, 1 km bridge till Ramasamy Wedding hall, he told. 

"After, all these ongoing bridge works are accomplished, Coimbatore city will be free of traffic congestion for the next 50 years. In addition, the work for constructing of a new integrated bus stand at Vellalore by the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board will commence shortly", the Minister told. 

A total of Rs. 2000 crores is being allotted to the developmental projects in Coimbatore which surely will transform the city 'Smart' and 'efficient', he remarked.

Rajamani, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Director C.N Maheshwaran, Corporation Commissioner and Special officer Sravan Kumar Jatavath, MLAs PRG Arun Kumar, Amman K Arjunan, VC Aarukutti, Ettimadai A Shanmugam, Deputy Corporation Commissioner Prasanna Ramasamy, DRO Ramathurai Murugan, City Engineer A. Lakshmanan, Assistant Corporation Commissioners, engineers and health officers were present in the meeting.
