Coimbatore: Police arrested over 60 protestors who protested condemning Rajini's slanderous speech on Periyar, and tried to tear his posters.
Controversy followed after Rajinikanth said that Periyar in 1971, in Salem, paraded statues of Rama and Sita naked in the street and garlanded it with sandals.

Various organizations have demanded that actor Rajinikanth should apologize for his derogatory remarks. In this case a protest was staged on behalf of various organizations in front of South Taluk Office.

Various organizations including TPDK, TVK, VCK, Dravida Tamilar Katchi participated.

They then tore down the portrait of Rajini. The protesters claimed that actor Rajinikanth had made an unsubstantiated comment in an attempt to discredit Periyar and demanded to withdraw the statement.

Following this, the police arrested more than 60 protesters.
