Coimbatore: More than one hundred Nam Tamilar members have come together to protest against Hindu parties who protested against the installation of their flag pole at the Pooluvampatti bus stand in Coimbatore.
Earlier this week, a flag pole of Nam Tamilar Party was placed after repainting at the Pooluvampatti bus stand in Coimbatore. Following this, on Sunday, the Nam Tamilar party hoisted the flag and distributed free sapling to the public around.
Cadres from various Hindu outfits like Hindu Munnani and BJP arrived at the spot and demanded that the flag be removed. It is said that they later tried to remove the flag pole. At this juncture, the Alandur police arrived and convinced both sides. The police also demanded the removal of the flag post of the Nam Tamilar Party. Following this, the flag post was removed.
Today, as per the directions by the party heads, Nam Tamilar party members gathered in Pooluvampatti Bus Stand.
The Police and Panchayat officials stopped them from installing the flag pole and they were asked to acquire permission from the Highways Department to install the flag pole.
As hundreds of cadres from Nam Tamilar Party and BJP gathered today, it created a furore in the area. Over 50 police have been deployed to provide security.
Youth wing Secretary of NTK, Vijayaraghavan said, "We were denied permission to replace the flag post by the Police and Panchayat officials. It is against the democratic rights to deny permission to place our flag pole. Though there are no rules against placing flag post we are deliberately denied permission to stop us from operating here. All department officials are in support of them. The other language representatives do not want Nam Tamilar Party to operate here."
He also said that a petition would be filed with the High Court soon on the officials for unnecessarily imposing restrictions for placing a flag pole."
