Acting upon a tip off of redwood smuggling through Vellalore bypass, the officials of Revenue Department here engaged in surprise vehicle checks near Kaniyur Tollgate.
The officials intercepted a lorry bd found that tonnes of redwood were smuggled. Subsequently, Rajkumar of Vellalore was arrested and 9.5 tonnes of redwood worth Rs 4.9 crores were confiscated.
In addition, the Directorate of Revenue department produced Rajkumar in the District Court today and was remanded at Coimbatore Central Prison.
