Tirupur: Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath addressed the press today on the backdrop of the executive committee meeting of his party. He addressed on various issues including the comments by Rajinikanth on Periyar and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam’s comments supporting Periyar and against Rajinikanth.

He also commented on the Kudamuzhukku (consecration) festival in Thanjavur Brahadeeswarar Temple, he said that language was not important for a religious festival adding that some organisations were trying to create issue out of nothing. He also remarked that earlier during former CM Karunanidhi’s regime, the festival was held the usual way by chanting in Sanksrit and not in Tamil.

Kudamuzhakku is performed as per the Sivaagama way even during the DMK period. Magudaagamam is itself a Tamil way of doing it.

Tamil Nationalist parties like Naam Tamilar, leaders like Maniarasan, the founder of the Tamil National Movement, Vaiko and others have show severe opposition for performing Kudamuzhakku for one of the iconic Tamil Temples, Brahadeeswarar Temple, a testimony of Chola architecture in Sanskrit and not in Tamil. Maniarasan had convened a meeting in Thanjavur to highlight this issue.

The Tamilnadu Minister for Tamil, Art, Culture and Archaeology has been reportedly quoted by the media that the consecration will be performed in both Tamil and Sanskrit.
