Coimbatore: Two social activists from the city who have spearheaded several protests relating to Thadagam sand mining issue visited the District Superintendent on Tuesday to lodge a complaint against a WhatsApp forward linking them with Naxals.

Ganesan and Rajendran are social activist who are known for their protests against illegal sand mining by brick kilns in the Thadagam valley. The duo have led various protests and filed petitions in the Court and to the authorities highlighting the pitiful state of the red soil rich Thadagam valley which is presently under the clutches of illegal brick kiln owners and soil miners.

Citing all their past protests against illegal sand mining in the Thadagam valley, the duo in their complaint to SP, Sujit Kumar have noted that as all their efforts to mitigate sand mining fell in deaf ears of the district administration, they have filed a petition in Madras High Court.

"Following our move, some miscreants have been spreading false information through WhatsApp linking us with Naxals. The WhatsApp states that we have been bribed by the Naxals for carrying out protests against brick kiln owners and sand mining", they told in their complaint.
