The Nilgiris: After repeated leopard sighting on Melur - Arukuruchi road in Coonoor, the forest department has advised the locals to exercise caution, while moving out after darkness. Especially, school going children are asked to use the stretch under adult supervision.

Over the week, a leopard was reportedly sighted several times in Melur, a Panchayat village in Coonoor Taluk of the Nilgiris District. Though there is nothing unusual about leopard presence in the area due to its close proximity to the forest, the leopard movement on the main road used by motorists and locals of the area has triggered panic.

Responding to the plea of the locals to chase the leopard into deep forests, the forest department has planned to depute staff to monitor the animal.
