Coimbatore: A 45-year-old man on Sunday was arrested by the Coimbatore Forest Range officials for poisoning nine peafowls and attempting to burn them at his farm in RG Pudur here.
Coimbatore: A 45-year-old man on Sunday was arrested by the Coimbatore Forest Range officials for poisoning nine peafowls and attempting to burn them at his farm in RG Pudur here.
According to foresters, the accused M. Kanagaraj had killed the peafowls as they had damaged his beetroot farm. In order to hide his act, he had attempted to burn them.
Based on a tip off, foresters arrived at the spot and caught him red handed in the act. The birds that are protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act,1972, have been facing such violence acts as they come into negative interactions with humans.
Kanagaraj was booked under the act and was produced before the sixth judicial magistrate. He was later remanded under judicial custody.
