According to foresters, the deceased P. Bhuvaneshwari had gone for trekking in the hills in Periyanaickenpalayam Range along with six others on Sunday morning.
As the team was walking on the Kunjur Pathi to Manguzhi road around 7.30 am through thick forests, they encountered a wild elephant.
While all the others including Bhuvaneshwari’s husband Prasanth had fled the spot, she was attacked by the tusker and succumbed to injuries on the spot.
Bhuvaneshwari was working as the Administrative Officer in Sankara Eye Hospital and was living in Ganapathi.
District Forest Officer D. Venkatesh said that she had the habit of trekking the hills along with her husband without any obtaining any permission from the forest department.
Her mortal remains were sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
