The incident happened today when the flagpole of NTK which has been newly painted, had a flag hoisting event and free distribution of plant saplings to the villagers. This flagpole has been present in the location for many months before this.
Following this event, few people allegedly belonging to Hindu groups in Pooluvampatti gathered around the pole and allegedly created quite a stir asking the NTK cadres to remove the flagpole.
Following the incident, the police reached the spot and requested both parties to calm down. But to the dismay of NTK cadres, police have asked them to remove the flagpole.
Detailing the incident, NTK Secretary for Thondamuthur, Advocate Sasikumar said that, “This flagpole was already in the same spot and all permissions from the Police Station were acquired to do so. Since the moral code of ethics for the elections came into the play few weeks back for the rural body elections, we had removed it. And today we painted the pole newly and placed it back in the same place following flag hoisting and distribution of plants to villagers.
But the cadres of Hindu Munnani couldn’t digest this and asked us to uproot the flagpole in the guise of a public request. Furthermore they challenged while quarrelling to us to us that they wont allow NTK to set foot in the rural areas of Coimbatore.
This is against the democratic principles and they are using non-Tamils to oppose the Naam Tamilar Katchi. This will be seen as a move that is against the Tamil majority of Tamilnadu.”
He also said that, “they will approach this issue legally and we have also intimated our party heads.”
