Valparai: The historic Sacret Heart Church in Valparai is famous for the annual Car Procession where thousands of people from Valparai and nearby areas participate religiously. The Car Procession, the main event of the Car Festival, was kicked off by the flag hoisting held on Sunday, the 12th.

A special prayer was conducted by Thomas Aquinas, Bishop of Coimbatore. The Car Procession started from the gates of the Sacred Heart Church in front of the Valparai Post Office, and went through the Sri Subramaniya Swamy Temple, the Old Bus Stand, the Gandhi Statue, the Tahsildar Office, the Stanmore Junction, the new bus stand and returned back to the Sacred Heart Church.

More than a thousand Christian men, women and children came out in procession singing Christian songs and holding candles. The Sacred Heart Church was decorated delightfully with serial bulbs for the festival. Valparai Police provided security for the procession.
