Minister SP Velumani launches Polio Vaccine Camp at Government Hospital in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: A state-run polio vaccination camp has been kicked off in all the districts of Tamilnadu to eradicate polio. All children under the age of five are given drops. According to a release by the government, 70.50 lakh children under the age of 5 will be given polio drops today.

Parents with kids below the age of 5 are requested to use these camps near their locality to vaccinate their kids and aide in improving the ‘herd immunity’ of our societies. The camps started at 7 am today and will conclude at 5 pm.

A total of 43,051 drip camps are held at Government Primary Health Centers, Government Hospitals, Anganwadi Centers, Nutrition Centers, Schools and other important places in Tamil Nadu.

In Coimbatore, Minister SP Velumani inaugurated the Vaccination Dispensary Camp at the Government Hospital in Coimbatore. The camp was attended by several officials including the District Collector of Coimbatore, K. Rasamani and Ashokan, Dean of CMCH.



After the inauguration, Minister Velumani met former Councilor Jayasithra who is receiving treatment at the Government Hospital in Coimbatore.

Meeting the press after this, he said, “Polio drops were given to 3.33 lakh children last year in Coimbatore. The target for this year is 3.34 lakh children.æ

A total of 1581 centers have been set up in the Coimbatore District of which 1202 are in rural areas and 379 in urban areas. In areas where the public gather in large numbers, 30 centers and 18 special mobile centers have been set up as special centers to vaccinate the children.



6536 staffs have been involved in executing the vaccination camps. The government's polio vaccine drops are of very high quality and safe. I request parents of children under the age of 5, should not miss this opportunity to vaccinate their children from polio.”
