Accused in Petrol Bunk case to be charged under GOONDAS Act

Coimbatore: The petrol bunk belonging to Roots Company was recently in the news, where an employee used his cell phone camera to film the women using the changing room at the petrol bunk.

Coimbatore: The petrol bunk belonging to Roots Company was recently in the news, where an employee used his cell phone camera to film the women using the changing room at the petrol bunk. 

An employee Subash, was booked for using his cell phone to film women changing their dress in the changing room. Manikandan, who copied the videos from Subash's phone into his own phone was booked for releasing the videos to journalist.  Maruthachalam who was the Captain TV District Reporter has been booked for publishing it online as raw footage. 

One of the affected women had filed a  case on Jan 8, 2020 with the C3, Saibaba Colony Police Station. Following this cases were filed under Section 354 (6 ) 120, 66(E), 67(A) Information Technology Act 2000, 4 of Tamilnadu Prohibition of Harrassment of Women Act 2002, 3, 4 & 6 of Indecent Representation of Women Act 1986.

Under the instructions of the Coimbatore District Police Commissioner Sumith Saran and the supervision of the Police Deputy Commissioner (L&O) T. Balaji Saravanan, Assistant Commissioner Karthikeyan led Police Inspector Chandralekha, Sub Inspector Thamarai Kannan had arrested Subash, Manikandan and Marudhachalam and placed them under Judicial Custody. 

The Police Commissioner has now issued orders to action against the three accused, Manikandan, Subash and Marudhachalam under the GOONDAS Act. 

A separate case has been booked on 4 people from Roots Management for assaulting Manikandan.
